Hospital Comparison

The Texas Business Group on Health's Texas Hospital Checkup has been a valuable tool for employers and consumers that enabled access to comparative hospital performance reports for your area. In order to bring you the most up-to-date information, several other hospital comparison tools are replacing the Texas Hospital Checkup. Explore these tools below to discover the information you need. If there are any comments or questions, please feel free to provide us with your feedback below.

Hospital Compare This tool is provided by the US Department of Health & Human Services and gives you information that helps you compare the quality of care provided in the hospitals that agree to submit data on the quality of certain services they provide for certain conditions. This quality information not only helps you make good decisions about your health care, but also encourages hospitals to improve the quality of health care they provide.

Texas PricePoint This site is sponsored by the Texas Hospital Association and was created to provide basic demographic, quality and charge information on Texas hospitals and to promote consumer/hospital interaction. On this site you will find charge data on the most common inpatient services, links to quality data, and general and contact information for Texas hospitals.

Texas Health Care Information Collection Hospital Indicators This tool is provided by the Texas Department of State Health Services and includes information on hospitals, including reports on hospitals and health care, hospital discharge data (both Texas Public Use Data File (PUDF) and data for research), and hospital data reporting requirements. It also provides information on Health Maintenance Organizations, including reports and HMO data reporting requirements.

Leapfrog Group Each year, Leapfrog gathers and reports information on hospital quality and patient safety efforts to help patients make informed decisions about where to receive hospital care. This tool allows you to get information on hospitals in your area by hospital name, city, or zip code.

Health Grades Use this tool to find hospital ratings for various hospitals and cities. Get access to award recipients and quality ratings (1 to 5 stars) on the most popular medical conditions. You can also access comprehensive reports including ratings, costs, patient volumes, and patient safety.

Dartmouth Atlas This tool offers comprehensive information and analysis about national, regional, and local markets, as well as individual hospitals and their affiliated physicians, in order to provide a basis for improving health and health systems. You can find state, region, and hospital-specific data and download prepared tables or make your own tables and graphs.

WhyNotTheBest.org This is a free resource developed by The Commonwealth Fund which provides data on hospital performance across two dozen measures of recommended care, and links users to improvement resources directly related to those measures, connecting them to hands-on tools they can put into practice. WhyNotTheBest.org also lets users search for and compare hospitals with similar characteristics, such as region, ownership, size, and type (such as safety net, teaching hospital). Benchmark comparisons show how a hospital measures up against others in the same state, the top 10 percent, or the national average. IPRO, a not-for-profit health care evaluation and quality improvement organization, conducted all data analysis and Web development for the site.
