Texas Employers Identify High-Cost Claims, Drug and Hospital Prices as Top Health Benefit Challenges
Texas employers are facing growing pressure from healthcare costs, and those pressures are increasingly affecting workforce and benefits strategies.
New Texas findings from the 2026 Pulse of the Purchaser survey reflect responses from 42 employers affiliated with the Houston Business Coalition on Health and DFW Business Group on Health, representing almost 519,000 covered lives.
Key findings include:
- 76.5% identified high-cost claims as a significant threat to affordability.
- 73.5% identified drug prices.
- 71.9% identified hospital prices.
- 97.4% said higher healthcare costs will result in further cost-shifting to employees.
- 89.7% said rising healthcare costs affect their organization’s competitiveness.
- 81.8% said hospital price transparency would be very or somewhat helpful.
The findings also highlight employer interest in practical strategies including stop-loss or captive reinsurance, enhanced screening and early detection, disease-specific programs, navigation and enhanced case management, and greater access to claims data.
